Women’s group show off how far they’ve come
A group of women from different cultures and backgrounds, who have been brought together by a unique project, are celebrating everything they have achieved.
The women are members of a group set up by Step Forward Tees Valley and Nur Fitness to provide friendship, exercise and other opportunities to those who may be isolated across Teesside.
The Nur Fitness group meets weekly and gives the women, who are from various countries including; Arabian, Kurdistan, Pakistan, Yemen, Iraq, Bangladesh, India, Turkish, and Afghanistan etc. the chance to make connections outside their home and in the towns where they now live.
More than 50 women have enjoyed making crafts, walks in the local area, cookery, learning digital skills and some have taken courses such as English and maths. Thanks to the group they have seen their self-confidence grow and have overcome the cultural and language barriers. The women have also shared their cultures, styles of living, dancing and cooking.
To celebrate what the women have achieved, a celebration event is taking place on Friday 7 December at Nur Fitness in Middlesbrough. The women will be showing off some of the things they have learnt and sharing their experiences of the project.
Zainab Nabeel, from Step Forward Tees Valley, said: “The work with Nur Fitness has helped break down barriers and helped some of these women make real connections and friendships with people who they would never have socialised with before. These women have changed so much in such a short space of time and now they want to share their experiences with others.”
“It’s all about opening these women’s horizons and opportunities so they can get the most of out of life in the UK.”
