"Thank you Step Forward Tees Valley"

Craig's Story

Craig joined Step Forward Tees Valley when he separated from his partner and had lost his job as a senior care assistant. He was suffering from stress, anxiety and depression and had low self-esteem and low confidence. Due to his financial situation, Craig had moved back in with his parents. He wasn’t claiming any benefits and had debts from credit/store cards and bank loans. He said he felt like he was drowning and just wanted his life back.

After meeting with a navigator an initial plan was made. Craig’s navigator made an appointment with his GP and he was prescribed anti-depressants and given mental health support. An appointment was arranged with Citizens Advice and a successful claim was made for Employment and Support Allowance.

Craig was also having difficulties with his ex-partner and seeing his son. He was referred to The Early Help Team who supported him to get a shared custody agreement in place.

Craig felt his life was improving, he felt more positive and was beginning to feel happy again. He had another appointment with Citizens Advice to sort out his financial difficulties and he now has a payment plan to settle his debts. This is a massive weight off his shoulders.

Craig went on a six week course to improve his self-esteem, well-being and confidence. His relationship with his ex-partner started to improve and they talked about a reconciliation.

Craig attended interview skills sessions, created a CV and began to search for jobs. He even visited the dentist and had his front teeth capped, something he’d previously been terrified to do.

Five months on and Craig is working as a senior care assistant in a job he loves and is back together with his partner in their family home.
