International Women's Day 2020
The theme for International Women’s Day this year is ‘Each for Equal’ and 'Collective Individualism’- we are all parts of a collective whole. Our individual actions, conversations, behaviours and mind-sets can and do have an impact on the wider society. Collectively, we can make change happen. Collectively, we can each help to create a gender equal world. With the gender pay gap currently standing at 17.9% in the United Kingdom, it is clear that work still needs to be done to create a fair and equal society.
As part of the celebrations, the group created an ‘I AM EQUAL’ tree, writing all positive things about themselves and the other ladies of the group. By putting each individual’s finger print on the tree, the group demonstrated their collectiveness and their individualism with their unique finger prints. They also made a pledge on what they are going to do to further support other women in line with the Each for Equal campaign.
The woman in these groups have come leaps and bounds and have moved in to further training, volunteering, jobs and are more confidence in themselves. After working with some of the woman I can see the change and the positive effect it has had on them and the hard work the Navigators do!
On Friday 27th February, some of our Redcar navigators celebrated International Woman’s Day 2020 with ladies from Redcar’s Coffee Morning and Craft Group course. Navigators Jane, Jackie, Lucy, Vicki and Carolyn from our partner Groundwork took part in a short session, directed by Emily from our partner Changing Lives, to celebrate the day, allowing the group to talk about key themes and issues surrounding women in 2020.
