Katie joined Step Forward Tees Valley because her mental ill health and overall chaotic lifestyle were preventing her from moving forward. She was also struggling with alcohol and substance misuse. Her navigator when with her to see Addaction, a drug and mental health charity. She engaged really well and wanted to be free of her dependencies and with hard work is became both physically and mentally well. Step Forward provided Katie with a safe and supportive environment in which she was able to discuss her problems and concerns.
Katie's navigator helped her get financial support with Food Bank vouchers and membership to the Next Step Shop which offers groceries and household goods at reduced cost. Together they were able to look to do some calculations so Katie could see how going back into work would improve her financial situation. Katie worked with her navigator to write a CV and develop a personal profile to highlight her skills and attributes to employers. She was also supported to complete job applications and given financial help o attend interviews and awareness sessions.
Thanks to Step Forward, Katie has got full time paid employment as an area care technician with a community housing organisation. Well done Katie!
