“I am making friends"

#iamstepforward

Kerry's story

"I’ve been working with Step Forward Tees Valley since May 2018 and since then I’ve come a long way in terms of building my self-esteem, confidence and motivation. I got involved because I wasn’t working and last worked a long time ago. I had worked in retail and enjoyed it. I have epilepsy and it can make me very tired and it affects me being able to work.

When I first started with Step Forward I was a bit worried, but once I had got used to the people, I was fine with it.

I’ve been working with a Mind health link worker and I’ve attended Community Heroes events. I regularly go to the Step Forward Tees Valley coffee morning and I’ve made some good friends. We have a really good laugh and play bingo. They are helping me with my confidence.

Step Forward are helping me meet new people and they have been helping me with my finances as well.

It all makes me feel a bit more secure and safer. If I need my navigator, I can phone at any time. She’s always there for me. She makes me feel comfortable. I’d eventually like to volunteer and I’m working with my navigator to prepare for that."
