“I am achieving qualifications"

Tracy's story

"I’d been looking for work and was applying for jobs, but I didn’t feel like I was getting much help. I was looking for retail and care jobs but needed to do some courses and I was struggling to find out what support was available.

I started with Step Forward and my navigator Jane was fantastic. I wasn’t feeling very confident but through Step Forward and going to the coffee mornings and meeting new people, I’ve gained more confidence.

At the coffee mornings I led activities which was great and really good for my confidence, and my navigator said I brought hope and joy to the other people who attended.

Jane helped me get on all the right courses and I passed them all. She knew exactly what I needed to do. I did English courses and passed Level 1 and Level 2. I achieved health and social care level 2.

I’ve landed a job – a 39-hour contract with a care company where I’ll be a support worker with adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour in a residential home!

It had been a difficult couple of years through bereavement but through Step Forward, I’ve been able to deal with that differently than I might have before. My partner is also being supported by Step Forward.

I’m so excited to be starting my new job - everything is coming up roses! I can’t wait to start it!"
